Wisdom Teeth Removal

WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL

Centuries ago, wisdom teeth might have proven useful for humans as replacements for other teeth worn down by abrasive diets. Now these extra teeth don’t usually fit in the mouth anymore. They’ve been known to decay quickly, cause toothaches, and promote gum disease.

Most people have four wisdom teeth that start forming in the mouth around seven years old. They often erupt between the ages of 17 and 21.

Impacted wisdom teeth cause problems because other teeth are blocking them. Sometimes infections occur, which damage the surrounding teeth.

Rest assured that our wisdom tooth dentist, Dr. Mark DeSimone, will take care of these extractions. He will perform an exam and see what your wisdom teeth look like from the inside, checking for placement and impacted teeth. Our team is ready and willing to make your visit to our office run smoothly.

We use IV sedation to help you feel at ease during your procedure, which will last less than an hour.

When it comes to extractions, our team runs efficiently while keeping any incisions minimal. After your wisdom teeth removal, we will prepare you with the necessary pain medications, as well as provide you with gauze and information about post-treatment care. A family member or friend should drive you home.

Stay off your feet for the rest of the day. Drink lots of water, but avoid using straws. As you start to feel better, keep in mind the rigorous activities may loosen the blood clots, so take it easy for about a week.

Dr. DeSimone will provide you with a post-care guide, along with some customized care rules. Our younger patients, for example, will need different care than our older patients. We will show you how to clean your mouth and reduce swelling. Your recovery should be as comfortable and quick as possible.

Your lifestyle is busy enough without the interruption of problematic wisdom teeth. We want you to have a healthy, happy mouth. If your wisdom teeth are giving you problems, call us today to schedule an appointment.
